Overview
This journey combines the cultural charm of Luang Prabang with some of the most remote and historically significant regions of northern Laos. Begin with cycling, village visits, and a scenic trek to Kuang Si Falls, before continuing overland to the Plain of Jars and the mountain province of Houaphanh. Along the way, explore important war history sites, caves, ethnic villages, and community projects that give deeper insight into Laos’ past and present. The tour ends with a wilderness experience in Nam Et National Park, followed by the dramatic scenery of Nong Khiaw, the Nam Ou River, and the sacred Pak Ou Caves.

Day by Day
Arrival In Luang Prabang
▼Upon arrival at the airport, you will be met by your guide and driver for the short transfer to your hotel.
Luang Prabang by bicycle
▼Explore Luang Prabang by bicycle, visiting the Royal Palace Museum, Heuan Chan Heritage House, Wat Xiengthong, Wat Visoun, and the Traditional Arts and Ethnology Centre. In the afternoon, cross the Mekong to visit quiet riverside villages, temples, and Ban Chan pottery village, ending with a sunset on the Mekong.
Trek to Kuang Si Waterfalls
▼Travel to Ban Longlao, a Hmong village, and begin a moderate trek through forest and jungle. The walk ends at the top of Kuang Si Waterfalls, with time to swim, relax, and visit the Bear Rescue Centre.
Luang Prabang to Phonsavan
▼Leave Luang Prabang for a long scenic drive through mountain landscapes towards Xieng Khuang Province. Along the way, stop at Khmu and Hmong villages before arriving in Phonsavan by late afternoon.
Explore the Plain of Jars
▼Visit the MAG office to learn about UXO clearance work, then explore several famous Plain of Jars sites. In the afternoon, discover the ancient town of Muang Khoun, visit the Lone Buffalo Foundation, and enjoy views from Phou Xang Viewpoint.
Phonsavan to Sam Neua
▼Continue by road through remote mountain areas, with stops at villages, a historic cave hospital, and local weaving communities. The journey offers insight into village life, war history, and the landscapes of northeastern Laos.
Vieng Xai Caves
▼Visit the historic Vieng Xai Caves, once used by Pathet Lao leaders during the Secret War. The audio tour brings the history to life, followed by an easy afternoon walk to lesser-visited caves in beautiful karst scenery.
Nam Et Night Safari
▼Travel by longtail boat along the Nam Nern River into Nam Et National Park. In the evening, enjoy a riverside barbecue dinner before floating silently downstream in search of nocturnal wildlife.
Nam Et to Nong Khiaw
▼Start the day with a guided jungle walk, learning about medicinal plants and the forest environment. After breakfast, cruise back downstream and continue by road through scenic landscapes to Nong Khiaw.
Nam Ou villages and Tad Mok Waterfall
▼Cruise upstream on the Nam Ou River and trek from Ban Sob Kong to Tad Mok Waterfall, where guests can swim in natural pools. Continue by boat to local villages, including Ban Sobjaem, known for its silk and cotton weaving.
